Hotel Ottoman Villa Velagomed
The Ottoman Villa Velagomed, also known as "VelagiÄ?evina", is an important monument of the Ottoman era in Blagaj, close to Mostar in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Constructed in 1766, the Villa Velagomed consists of several houses, a mill, a washing area, and a cave in splendid mature gardens. The gardens are split in 2 by the river Buna, creating an island accessible by small wooden bridges.

The property sits at the feet of sheer cliffs, which are dominated by the Herceg Stjepan fortress.

Distributed over 2 floors, the rooms overlook the garden and the river Buna. The typically Mediterranean garden is peaceful and full of flowers. Access to the rooms is by the vast living room of the house called Hayat.

The rooms' thick walls provide natural air conditioning in summer. The furniture is chosen with taste, as are the bedding, linen and towels.

The VelagiÄ? family can be found among the aristocratic families of Bosnia and Herzegovina, important landowners and traders since the 18th Century, in particular with the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Venetians.

VelagiÄ?evina also contains a museum, open from May to October. There you will learn about life in the complex, past and present. The collection of objects and books was damaged during the last war, however, the most precious belongings were kept safe.

The villa serves traditional Bosnian cuisine, which is a mixture of Arabic, Turkish and Central European food.
